We are slotted to play in the extravaganza that can only be
described as four days of bands, beers and booze: The Wanch's very own Handover
Hallelujah! We are on for July 1, and will return with a time for you later on.
See you, it is free and awesome!
Oh, and if you are new to the Wanch - it is on 54 Jaffe road. Zang!
We are stoked to play alongside Robin Nievera as he and fellow band Carlos Castano & the City Lights Soundtrack take over Fringe Club on SATURDAY April 20. It is 150HKD including drink and we will be opening the evening. Come down!
Robin Nievera is a singer/songwriter, guitarist, composer and musical
producer from Manila. His riffs, melodies, and lyrics are inspired by
Incubus, Dave Mathews Band, John Mayer and Bon Iver. Robin and his band
opened for Hanson’s “Shout it Out” world tour early 2012, and Robin won
“Best New Male Artist” at the prestigious 2012 Star Awards. The band
released its album “Nightmares” in November 2012, and is currently
undertaking its first Asian tour, making stops in Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan.
Carlos Castano & the City Lights Soundtrack (Philippines)
Carlos Castaño is an independent musician from the Philippines. His
music is a reflection of the multitude of stories that heʼs accumulated
over the years. Moving back to the city three years ago, he started
writing material for his first album City Light Soundtrack, a 12-song
all-original release that was launched in November of 2010. A year later
he begun producing and writing material for his second album, City
Light Soundtrack 2: Permanence, released today- March 21, 2012.
The second album is an 11-track all-original release that still mirrors
the first album but is sonically miles ahead. Produced by himself,
Edward Enriquez, Kelvin Uy, and Errol Apacible in his home studio and in
Kerplunk! Recording Studios in Makati, Carlos says that his truer
influences shine out here in the second album- “everything from Motown to
early pop records to the blues.”
Cover: $150 (in advance), $180 (on the day); includes one special drink
PartyPosted by Freddy Gunn Sun, November 11, 2012 12:08:40 This is going to be great. Hanging out on a beach, going between food-stalls and feeling kinda bad for blasting too loud music into the young 'uns ears ;)
Yes ladies and gentlemen it is time for Lamma Fun Day! Timmy informs me that we'll be playing 7-8pm. Perfect! Bring it onnnn!!!
(and yes, this event shows up on our blog after the 25th events. my apologies - it is very much on the 24th)
It is time for the concert of the year again, and we will play in the early evening Sunday at Silvermine bay. Oh I am so looking forward to this. Heck, if even the local Timberland store has an ad for it then it must be popular, and the FB group (see below) already has 1300 accepts. Niiiice!
PartyPosted by Freddy Gunn Tue, June 26, 2012 12:13:02 Woho!!! We love the Wanch's handover hallelujah, and this year they are having FOUR days of party. We were stoked to be playing on the juicy slot of Saturday at 10pm. Yeah! For this little fiesta it will be Timmy, Jimmy & Freddy since Kid Gunn is off to the shores of Macau for the weekend.

PartyPosted by Freddy Gunn Thu, October 06, 2011 23:49:17 All right! It has been a YEAR of BauCo parties, and now we'll be part of the anniversary. So awesome. We play on the 29th at Xperience. All for free free FREEEEE!
PartyPosted by Freddy Gunn Tue, August 09, 2011 14:26:36 Oh yeah! Amazing lineup with IL&P! at the Wanch, and our missing brother Niall is joining us on stage for a few songs. Who can say 'no'? I can't ;)
PartyPosted by Freddy Gunn Fri, June 03, 2011 10:40:22 Quick note (after all, there are TWO gigs in one night :) We are confirmed to play at the wonderful and drunken LKF Beerfest. Super sweet! Outdoor location somewhere along the bar street - just look for the stage and you'll be fine. We will play the prime slot of 22:00. Thank YOU LKF! Nice!
In ADDITION we will be heading down to Backstage for a late (23ish) attempt to perform well in the PlanetRox competition - if you have time then please come down and vote for yours truly, there is a very very very small chance we get to go to Montreal to zaaaaang play at the festival.
Ladies and Gentlemen, it is time for our fracking RELEASE PARTY. We are so stoked about it, and it will feature our friends from DP, Hungry Ghosts and Apache.
Come by Graffiti (opposite Hard Rock Cafe in LKF) and party with us all night! Entry is FREE and you can buy our new CD GLOW for 40 HKD only. There will also be a special promotion by Graffiti where you can buy CD and a beer for 75 which sounds swell to me. Beeeeeer!
Big thanks to Alive Not Dead, HKGFM, BC Magazine, The Underground and our friends in Bauhinian Collective.
PartyPosted by Freddy Gunn Fri, June 03, 2011 10:09:34 >>> Update, all right due a typhoon we are instead playing on the 6th of July. We can't say we are bummed since it will be the effing season finale of the races and should be packed. Oh yesss....
This is just so so so rad. We have had the good fortune to get the awesomest chaps at alivenotdead to put us on the slot for the 22nd of June where Happy Valley racecourse will host one of three nights of Rock the Valley. We will play in a special area which caters to (holy shiiiiit) 1500 people, and of course there is the greater (astronomical number coming up) 15000 capacity of the racecourse that might be somewhat bothered by a noisy band getting in the way of the racing action.
We can't wait! Alongside us will be Asia-top Jazz guitarist and all around guitar-god Eugene Pao & Adrian da Silva. Woah...
Come if you can! It is 10HKD entry, and we should play a couple of shorter sets throughout the night. RAAAAAAD!
And just to top it off, YES there is a promo video.
Woho! We are supporting Reign Lee when she is launching her new full length CD at Grappas on the 27th.
Regin herself describes it as this: "Yes, the rumours are true, I’ve been busy in the woodshed working on a
new record. It will be ready to drop on Sat, Nov. 27th. We’ll be
bringing down the house at Grappa’s Cellar from 8pm to 2am and we want
you to join us! Some of HK’s most eclectic and talented acts will be
joining me and there may even be a few surprise guests who drop by
throughout the night, but that’s top secret."
Come if you can!!! Bee is joining us for guitar duties and overall ass-kicking. Say 'hi' too him and give him a big slobbery kiss so that we don't have to ;)
Holy cow, this year has gone so quickly. Our beloved frontman and brother Niall Gunn will now take a temp leave from the band for a brief spell and fight his way into pilot school. (don't worry, we'll still be a four piece, but still... the Niallster!!!)
Anyway, I'll ask him to write more on the blog about this, but I wanted to advertise the last gig that Niall will be doing with us this year. We will have a wonderful, loud, drunken and FREE gig at the Wanch on next Friday together with Six Pack of Wolves and The Icarus Flight Plan. Drop by and say 'hi' and salute the man the myth the hairgel: Niall Gunn - we <3 you bro!!!
Timmy has already written a bit about the release party on our overall blog (www.shotgun-politics.com/blog) but I thought to add a few tidbits about the evening.
Songs for Children are my FAVE DJ:s in Hong Kong for sure - they don't only know how to rock a party but also managing to be so cute and adorable that you wanna take them home for supper... ahh... and they did a RAD special flyer for the event - it is the Songs mascot holding aaaaaa... SHOTGUN! Mike, you are a star.
We then had a little surprise stored for the dancefloor ("oh nooo", I hear you think, but you are wrong - it was not our interpretive ballet dance session), where we had pre-recorded Rebel Radio without vocals so that Niall and the rest could holler into a mic. The surprise element was that I had switched the "standard" Rebel Radio verses with Michael Jackson's Billie Jean, Smooth Criminal and Kraftwerk's The Model. Haha! So much fun :D There is an inaudible rendition on YouTube if you are interested.
Thank you guys and gals for being there! Now, how can we pretend that we have a new album so we can party with you again....
We are stoked that the best HK DJ couple is playing tunes at our release party at our fave hangout place Bassment. Tons of love to go around that night for sure! Yay!
Come and say 'hi' if you have the time, entry is free and drinks are cheap! Cheeeeeers!
